Starlink's satellite internet, consisting of about 6,000 satellites, provides high-speed, low-latency connectivity, allowing passengers to stream videos, send messages, and make calls while flying.
Qatar will be the first airline in the Middle East and North Africa to offer this service, which will be available for free from gate to gate. The airline is undergoing a strategic transformation, and this launch is part of its efforts to enhance passenger experience. Saad bin Ali Al-Kharji, Qatar Tourism Chairman, joined Al Meer on the flight, where Musk assured them, "Think of this as the minimum. It only gets better from here."
The competition among airlines is heating up. Earlier this month, Air New Zealand announced plans to introduce Starlink on two domestic flights by late 2024. The demand for better connectivity is growing, as noted by Air New Zealand's CEO, who stated that reliable internet on full-service carriers will soon become "ubiquitous."
